The Road to Cloverfield

Initially, this movie was on my top 10 ten most anticipated movies of the year. But over the past month, my interest has fallen beyond opening night. There have been several actions taken with this movie that have driven me to think this film will be nothing more than a Godzilla: Reborn. First, they released another trailer. The suspense created by the teaser was probably the best I’ve seen all year, but they had to come out and make another longer trailer giving more information of the film. Second, even though they came out with a longer trailer, there still has not been any sign of a plot. What do we want to see here? Another War of the Worlds? No, I believe people want to see something more than citizens running away from monsters. The only redeemer may be that J.J. Abrams is directing the film. He has done Lost, which had a pretty interesting story line, so maybe he will incorporate his story telling abilities in Cloverfield. Although, Lost never seemed to get anywhere, so hopefully 1-18-08 will not end with a cliffhanger. I will probably still go see the movie, just because so much hype has already been created, but if Abrams has what it takes to change my mind, I will be very happy.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets – Reviewed

I didn’t have the greatest hopes for this movie, but I found I was quite wrong. Fortunately I had the opportunity to see this movie early Friday afternoon without all the teenagers with their cell phones making out in the theater, so I was concentrated. I actually thought this movie was decent, but their were definitely some spots that could’ve used help. For example, the movie looked like a complete repeat from the first, from beginning to end. It starts the same way, and ends the same way. Although the first and second are so similar, there are some cool aspects to the film, but not many. Second of all, DON’T WATCH THE TRAILER, it virtually gives away the entire film, I knew what was going to happen after watching the trailer. Another thing, they need to find more realistic places to find treasure. In this movie, it’s like they chose the coolest, most ridiculous place they could to find treasure. Super unrealistic, unlike the first movie, which could have been slightly believable. Anyhow, this movie seems like it could’ve used to more pre-production planning in regards to the story and set location, but overall a little below decent film.
